England won the toss and elected to bat first
They have a good start but Lahiru Kumara picked three wickets with support of Kushan Rajitha and Angelo Mathews thundered back with brilliance nabbing two wickets. He ( Mathews )had played just seven ODIs since the 2019 world cup.
England was bowled out for 156 runs in 33. 2 overs.
It was the one- sided game
In second inning, Sri lanka lost their first two wickets in the first six overs. Then, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama seemed in constant form
Both the batsmen remained not out. Patham Nissanka scored 77 runs in 83 balls, on the other hand Sadeera Samarawickrama notched 65 runs in 54 balls.
And in the last Pathum Nissanka finished off the game with a six.
Lahiru Kumara was the player of the match for his magnificent performance against England.

He said “, playing a team like England , I’m very happy to perform this way today. Didn’t make a lot of changes after previous match. The Australia game was an off day for me . I’ve worked hard on my bowling . ( on Mathews) Having him back is an inspiration, he gave me a lot support and was talking to me throughout. ( on his role in the team) The plan was to attack the middle overs with disciplined bowling, and we were rewarded with wickets”.
England stands on the verge of early exit from the tournament after three consecutive defeats.
